What is Biodegradable Glitter made from?
Our biodegradable glitter is made from plant cellulose, which is derived from renewable raw materials, responsibly and environmentally sourced. It is non toxic and approved for cosmetic use.
Our glitter is not tested on animals and contains plant derived materials and no animal derivatives so it is Vegan Friendly.
How should I store it?
Our Biodegradable Glitter will only begin to biodegrade where micro-organisms are present such as in soil, compost, waste water and ocean environments. As long as it is stored in a dry dark, cool environment, out of direct sunlight, away from direct heat sources and not exposed to microorganisms it will have an indefinite shelf life.
Biodegradable Glitter requires the presence of microorganisms to degrade. Warm and wet conditions are ideal, in the correct conditions the rate of degradation is determined by what size the glitter is and what condition it finds itself in. The glitter will biodegrade in oceans, soil and compost. It occurs over a period of several months. It is designed to break down in sewage systems where micro organisms are present so very little, if any will reach the oceans.
Does it look like Polyester Glitter?
Biodegradable Glitter has the same precision cut and highly reflective properties as polyester (PET) glitter however, it is much softer.
Is it Heat and Solvent Resistant?
It is heat resistant up to 120'C. Our biodegradable glitters compatibility with different solvents will depend on the specific ingredients it is mixed with. As there are a large number of formulations that glitter can be incorporated into, it is not possible for us to be certain how the glitter will react in every formulation.
We recommended that you carry out a test of the glitter with the substance you want to mix it with, to ensure that you are happy with the results. If you would like more specific advice regarding this please contact us, we are always happy to help
Is it Cruelty Free and Vegan Friendly?
Yes! Just like all of our glitter ranges, our biodegradable glitter is not tested on animals and contains plant derived materials and no animal derivatives so it is Vegan Friendly. It is not suitable for human or animal consumption.
